Lazy Day Hairstyle

The Half-Up Top Knot

I’ve been coveting the top knot ever since I cut my hair short 2 years ago, THEN I started seeing the half up top knot and it has quickly become a go to around day 3 of dry shampoo. I have noticed the less thought put into it, the better it turns out. Right before I throw it up I use my fave Bumble and Bumble Pret-a’-Powder to make it look clean as if I just finished blow drying my squeaky clean hair. My last step is to use Hairdressers Invisible Oil to tame some of the frizzies. The top knot is the perfect eye catching style for a fun, easy hairdo. Go on, give it a shot!

Below I’ve shown two ways to style your top knot! The one on the top is a little more free and funky and the one on the bottom is a little more polished and preppy. I’d love to see the other ways you style yours!

My secret to curls

bumble selfieToday I’m letting you in on a little secret. I’m wearing my hair down, it hasn’t been washed in three days AND I even sweat last night while working out. [partly being on the elliptical, mostly using the tiny TV to watch New Girl]

I have 2 products I want to share with you that made this dirty hair some how still compliment capable.

First off, Bumble and Bumble is the jam. Let’s just get that out there.

I started with Bumble and bumble pret-a`-powder: I would start by going on either side of your part, leaving it directly off of it, and just using two shakes per section. Rub it in like shampoo and consider your hair {dry} washed. Any excess powder can simply be blown off with a blow dryer. Kudos to you, there was no oil for it to soak up and your hair wasn’t as dirty as you thought!

Next step: I use a 1 1/2 inch curling iron to touch up my front strands, if necessary.

Finish: I spray all over with Bumble and bumble Surf Spray and use my hands to re form my curls.

The look you will get is not necessarily the “I’m ready for the gala”, but more the “I’m an effortlessly sexy surfer” look.

Also, off subject, but I just want to say that goodwill flannel I mentioned in my insta post is reguarly $125 and I got it for $2.50. I’ll take that.

Comment with any questions or let me know how this style worked for you!

Love, Anna

Nashville, let’s do this thing

One year ago in November I graduated cosmetology school and made the decision to stay in Nashville. I wrote in November 2013 “I believe the Lord is calling me to stay for now. I’m excited to see what’s next.” I ended that journal entry by saying “Nashville, let’s do this thing” God is faithful. God is faithful. God is faithful. As I reflect on where I was last year writing those words it makes me smile so big to see where I am now. I had no job, few friends in Nashville, missed home and oh, I was single. When I wrote that I was excited to see what was next I’m nearly positive I was forcing myself to think that way. Since then I have babysat more children than the population of my hometown while waiting to get a salon job, I’ve wondered what I was doing here and considered moving home, I’ve dated and married Taylor, I’ve made life long friends and I’ve shared sweet memories and some bittersweet tears with some of those friends as I watched them move on to other places, I’ve began to realize a small glimpse of maybe what I’m doing here. I wouldn’t trade one thing that has happened during this last year. I hear people say that and in the midst of something hard I always think those people are ridiculous because why would you not trade out one of those “bad” experiences for something that seems so much better? Well, looking back those “bad” seasons made the good ones good. They didn’t teach me things that only positive experiences would have. Trust me, I’m sure next time I’m in that season I will be begging to trade it, but I would like to hope as I sit here today and reflect on how faithful God is through it all that it will help me through this next year. So once again Nashville, lets keep doing this thing!

blog-nashville lets do this

1 Peter 1:6&7 says- In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials, so that the proof of your faith being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ

#WIFED

Well I’ve decided to bring the blog back now that I’m not spending every extra minute wedding planning. Yep, you read it right #wifethatgirl has officially been #WIFED. July 4th I got engaged and October 3rd I married the man of my dreams. The wedding day was perfect. All of our friends and family from every state under one roof celebrating. The next day we flew on cloud 9 to the beach for our honeymoon. Weather was perfect, water was warm and shopping was everything! We have felt so loved through this whole process. We soon returned to Nashville where work started back and responsibilities began calling our names again. Here we are, week 4 of marriage and I think I’m still on cloud 9. Sure, things aren’t perfect, they never will be and that’s not what I was ever expecting, BUT I do get to live life with the man I now call my HUSBAND. We get to plan meals together, serve together, sleep in the same bed together and wake up together, teach each other and learn how to love better. Are there disagreements? Well yeah, Taylor doesn’t think I should have both closets all to myself and I didn’t think it was necessary for us to keep ALL FIVE coffee brewing methods we got. But we’ve managed to work through both. (He has half of the extra closet and yes, we kept all 5 brewing machines) If you come over plan to drink coffee. Lots of it. I know marriage isn’t easy, I know it takes work. I’m not a professional wife and never will be, but I’m excited for the Lord to lead us to the cross through each other. I’m excited to live in a one bedroom apartment where we learn to share space and laugh when we both need to use the one bathroom at the same time. I’m excited to sit on a picnic blanket in the kitchen floor to eat supper because we don’t have a dining room table. Before we know it this season will be gone and these will be some of our favorite memories we tell our children. Friends, we cherish your prayers and encouragement. Sin is real and Satan doesn’t like relationships that glorify God, but we are in this to fight for it. We are beyond blessed with community who loves us but more importantly loves God. I don’t know where you are, I don’t know what season you’re in, just know the next season won’t be your problem solver. Know now, that in this season and the next 5, the only thing that won’t change is that God is enough. I need to remember that just as much as you do. Taylor will fail me, I will fail him but God never will. I pray we cling to that truth and it begins to be evident in our lives.

THIS IS THE DAY I HAVE MADE -Jesus

Well, it’s just been one of those weeks. I’ve babysat over 40 hours this week and in my head that wasn’t really ideal. I tried to keep reminding myself that I’m blessed to have these babysitting jobs (I really do love all your kids and my time with them, promise.) and kept trying to convince myself, and I think convince Jesus, I was thankful for those jobs. By Thursday night I was over it. I was over babysitting, I was over being a friend, I was sure over being a good girlfriend, and was just ready to sleep till I couldn’t sleep anymore. I’m thankful to live with girls that love Jesus and point me to Him. I also have a boyfriend that does that really well too! Esther always knows I LOVE to talk so I think she was a little concerned when I was in bed by 8:30 not really saying anything. She loved me like any good sister would and pointed me to Jesus. Exactly what I needed. After realizing some selfishness and the fact I most always think I’m capable of controlling situations and handling things on my own I ran to Jesus. Exactly where I needed to go. This morning I woke up and read Jesus Calling real quick before I ran off to take children to the library. It was perfect. Jesus met me where I am. It started off in all caps THIS IS THE DAY I HAVE MADE. How true! And how often I forget. Today is full of exactly what The Lord wants for us. So today as I drove a mini van around downtown and had two car seats in the back and Matt Redman singing ‘Bless The Lord oh my soul, worship His holy name’ I almost began to cry. Very often this week I thought to myself, I have a license to do hair and that’s my passion. This is not what I’m supposed to be doing. FALSE. It’s where God has me right now and with positive salon info I received this week it’s probably very temporary. Regardless, I’m here. I’m 22 with a license to cut hair and no kids, but driving the van around and pushing strollers like I was born for this. So, thank you Father for loving me more than I’ll ever be able to comprehend. You sent your son to die for me, your faithfulness will not stop now.

I’m back and excited to share with you one of my favorite winter recipes! 6 can soup is a win for everyone. Easy for the cook, and delicious for everyone who gets to eat. The recipe is simply in the name: 6 can soup

1 can of black beans
1 can of Rotel
1 can of cooked chicken
3 cans of chicken and rice soup

Mix all the cans together in a pot and let it warm up. I served with shredded cheddar cheese and crumbled tortilla chips to put on top. You could double the recipe if needed, this amount served 5 people. Hope you enjoy your soup and stay warm!

Jonesboogie to Nashvegas

Boy! What a year it has been and its not even over. On January 5th I packed up all my stuff with the help of family and friends and headed to Nashville, TN to start a new chapter of life. On January 8th I started my first day of cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell. Well last Tuesday, November 5th, I clocked out of school for the very last time. Wow! It came so fast. So, the question everyone’s been asking…Are you staying in Nashville? Yes!!! I’m excited to say that I am. The Lord moved me here and I had a very unsure mindset about it. Over the past 10 months He has been working in me and I believe has called me to stay for now. I do not have a set job yet but am working towards that. I will be taking my state board tests very soon so I’m spending some time studying. My prayer is that the Lord places me in a salon He is at work in and can use me for His glory! I’m also praying its super fun and wouldn’t hurt if it was in a super cool area of Nashville:) haha. This year has taught me so much and really helped me grow up. Life without my mom minutes away is hard for a girl, but through lots of texting, and “where can I find this in Walmart” calls, we’re making it through. I’m excited to see whats next. Nashville, lets do this thing!

Hi friends! I’m sharing an easy, favorite with you tonight: sautéed veggies and quinoa. I cut up red and yellow peppers, onion, and broccoli and sautéed it using olive oil. Once the veggies were done I dumped them in with the boiled quinoa, added some soy sauce and natures seasoning, and went to town. I made 2 cups of quinoa which was enough for dinner for 2 plus a couple leftover lunches, which I’m all about:) hope you guys enjoy!

It’s breakfast time in my kitchen! This week I’m telling you about an easy, on-the-go breakfast food…pancake muffins. I bought the great value ‘just add water’ mix for my recipe. I did simply just that and of course added some chocolate chips, poured them in lined muffin tins, and baked them. The recipe I saw on Pinterest said to bake for 12-14 minutes on 180 degrees but mine were still like batter at that point. So I put them back in on 200 for another 10-15 and that worked okay. My oh so domesticated brother made them today and said 250 for about 15 minutes worked best for him. He even added protein powder to his! You could add blueberries, nuts or any topping you prefer. I have re-heated mine in the mornings for about 10 seconds, drizzled with syrup, and enjoyed. Let me know what you guys add and what temp and time works best:)

Oh hey! Remember that pesto you have in the cabinet from our chicken pesto a couple weeks ago? Well, pull it out! We’re making pasta! I used whole wheat rotini noodles, pesto, mozzarella, and chicken. I needed something easy and wanted to use ingredients I already had; I even have enough leftovers for tomorrow:)
